National Cadet Corps (NCC)

NATIONAL CADET CORPS

NCC is the biggest youth organization of the country with more than 15 lakh cadet strength. It was established in the year 1949 in its present form, though it follows the legacy of the University Cadet Corps established in 1917. NCC as an organization is contributing towards the development of the youth in the country. It is open to educated boys and girls of schools and colleges of the country. It is administered by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The motto of NCC is “Unity & Discipline”. Training activities in NCC consists of basic training of the regular armed forces provided throughout the academic year.

 

NCC offers a specialised course which includes the practical training of weapon handling, firing, military tactics, civil defence, first aid, map reading and many more. This course consists of 3 years of senior division cadets followed by certificate examinations. The ‘C’ certificate earned by an NCC cadet will enable him or her to join the Armed Forces in different categories and capabilities.

 

St. Xavier’s College NCC is affiliated to 20 Bengal Battalion NCC (Army Wing) as its 6th company. It is open for both boys and girls studying in undergraduate courses of the college. Since its inception in 1949, the college unit has served extraordinarily in various fields and achieved prestigious honour and distinct recognition from various international, national and state events.

Time and again the representatives of this society have contributed new feathers to the cap. Likewise, the academic year of 2022-23 has attained a new zenith of success with the outstanding achievements listed below:

 

 

Publication of ‘CHRONICLE OF A CENTURY’ – Coffee Table Book

‘Chronicle of a Century’ a coffee table book commemorating 100 years of uniformed services at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata was launched on the 15th of August, 2022. The book was launched by SXCNCC and presented to the Chief Guest Commodore Sameer Choudhary, Group Commander Kol- ‘C’ Group of NCC.

The book entails the journey of NCC from the pre-independence period up to the present day, giving a detailed picture of the role of NCC during British Rule, in the post-independence era and the new millennium along with their achievements and signature events.

 

Major Dr. Atish Prasad Mondal, ANO, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata, 6 Company, 20 Bengal Battalion, NCC Kol-C, was awarded the DG NCC Medallion by Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, Director General of NCC, on November 17th, 2022, for his commendable contribution in the NCC and ensuring the active participation and training of all cadets under him in various NCC events, camps, and parades.

 

SGT Nalanda Basu attended EBSB Independence Day Camp at Delhi in 2022.

 

SUO Bridgit Muskaan Gomes, JUO Manvendra James Singh, CSM Nicholas Harry Francis, CSM Garett Andrew Smith and SGT Aparna Anthony offered Triservice guards to DGNCC in 2022.

 

SUO Armaan Chowdhury, JUO Manvendra James Singh, CQMS Ashu Kumar Singh and SGT Madeti Daya Sagar Rao attended All India Trekking Camp 2023 NER.

 

CQMS Mohammad Tauqeer Siddiqui secured 2nd position in Inter Battalion Quiz Competition on G20 Summit 2023.

 

SUO Armaan Chowdhury recieved the GOVERNOR MEDAL in 2023.

KAHANI - VISIT OF DIG COAST GUARD

On 13th November 2022, we had a special visit of Deputy Inspector General Davis John Manoj, a serving Officer of the Indian Coast Guard, under Ministry of Defence. The event started with a brief introduction and felicitation of DIG by our ANO. He then addressed the cadets in which he enlightened the cadets about Coast Guards, also mentioning on how to join one. The proceedings of the event ended with a vote of thanks by our ANO, Dr. Major Atish Prasad Mondal, along with the NCC song. The DIG presented us with a special token of appreciation- A medallion, to the college senior, SUO Bridgit Muskaan Gomes before the escort.

KHEL VI

KHEL-2023 the mega Inter Battalion sports meet in the city has featured 13+ events inviting different army battalions, naval units, and air force squadrons of NCC this year to participate in various sports competitions. More than 1000 cadets participated and promoted the importance. It was covered by the Telegraph newspaper and Friends FM Radio.
